"Aoidoi" is classical Greek for "bards," like Homer, or just "poets." This site is dedicated to the study of ancient Greek poetry from the Epics to Anacreontics. Most of the work is directed at producing versions of Greek poems with vocabulary, grammar and dialect notes for beginners.

Dec 20, 2014: As should be clear from the dates on the "New and notable" section below, it has been some time since I've updated this site. I'm declaring Aoidoi.org officially on hiatus. I'm not going to take it down, and I hope some day to have time to work on it again, but right now Life is keeping me busy with other things.

• June 3 2012: non-crabby poems from the Anthology, Poems from the Greek Anthology.
• March 17 2012: the gateio has been updated with six new poems.
• February 26 2012: Cleanthes' Hymn to Zeus.
• February 7 2012: Bion 9: who the Muses will, and will not, help. And Bion 11: asking for help from Hesperus. There is also a Facebook group where I announce updates.
• February 25 2011: Theognis 133-142, on the limits of human action.
• October 30 2010: Anacreon 358 — maybe she's Sappho, maybe she's not.
• November 19 2009: Mimnermus 5.
• February 21 2009: Aoidoi.org now has a sibling site, Scholiastae.org.
• October 10 2008: a topical elegiac couplet from David Sansone, Palin Ode.
• July 14 2008: now, for something less archaic, Mesomedes 3: Hymn to Nemesis.
